Pedodontics

Pediatric dentistry, also called Pedodontics, is a specialty which focuses on the oral health of infants, children and adolescents. Pedodontists are dental practitioners with additional training in the delivery of preventative and therapeutic dental care for children. Hence, if you have an infant, child or adolescent in need of dental care, your family is best served by a dental clinic that offers pediatric dentistry services.

Our skilled pedodontists and professional staff will help your children maintain good oral health and learn how to prevent dental diseases. We suggest a lifetime regimen of dental cleanings that starts when your children are young so that harmful plaque and tartar are removed and a positive routine is established. Our staff take the time to make sure children know the proper technique for effective brushing. As soon as children are old enough to floss, we teach them how to use floss and include flossing in the daily regimen.

Our friendly and caring 7 Day Dental staff members strive to make children feel relaxed and comfortable during their visit. And we believe that parents are our partners in ensuring the optimal oral health of their children. We understand that you want to make sure your children have a good relationship with their dentist, and that starts with their very first visit. Our pediatric specialists spend time with parents to explain any recommended treatment, discuss options and answer all your questions.

We want to make our relationship with your young ones as smooth as possible from the beginning. Our pediatric experts take the time to get children familiar with the office and all the tools inside. Your child may be a little fearful at first, with the unfamiliar setting and having a stranger looking inside their mouth. These are things that pedodontists are trained to expect and handle. So, when it comes to your child’s oral health, let us be your partner! Call us!

Early dental care tips.

A child’s first visit to the dentist should occur within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth. That is usually between 6 months and 1 year of age. Even before that, a parent should care for his/her baby’s oral health by wiping the gums with a soft washcloth or gauze after feeding. When an infant is breastfeeding or feeding with a bottle, it is important to not let the baby sleep with the nipple in its mouth. Even milk has sugars that will form plaque, and when a nipple remains in the mouth, the liquid is pooling around the teeth. 7 Day Dental recommends that infants be weaned from the breast or bottle no later than 14 months of age.

Parents need to feed their children a healthy diet and avoid sugary snacks and liquids. The parents initiate the correct oral hygiene practices by selecting soft bristle toothbrushes and teaching their children how to use them with fluoride toothpaste. Remind children to brush after every meal and change their toothbrush every 3 months. As soon as the child is old enough to learn how to floss, teach them to floss every night before bedtime.

Our pediatric dentists emphasize the kind of early training and preventative measures that will serve your children well throughout their entire lives. We have a special program called the Healthy Start System that we highly recommend to correct sleep disordered breathing and ensure that teeth grow in straight. You can read more about it on the website and ask your pedodontist for more information. We look forward to serving your whole family.
